How It Works
Ruff Sketch coordinates relay-style dog transports using a network of volunteer drivers. Here is how the process works from start to finish.
For Rescue Organizations
Step 1: Submit a Transport Request
Fill out our transport request form with details about the dog, pickup location, destination, and any special needs or medical considerations.
Step 2: Route Planning
Our coordinators map out the route and break it into manageable legs (typically 1-3 hours each). We identify meet-up points at safe, public locations like pet-friendly rest stops and parking lots.
Step 3: Volunteer Matching
We reach out to our volunteer driver network to fill each leg of the route. Drivers sign up for the legs that work with their location and schedule.
Step 4: Transport Day
On transport day, drivers relay the dog from point to point. Each driver receives detailed instructions, emergency contacts, and information about the dog they will be carrying. The dog travels safely in a crate with food, water, and any needed medications.
Step 5: Safe Arrival
The dog arrives at their destination — whether that is a rescue organization, foster home, or forever family. We follow up to confirm safe arrival and celebrate another successful transport!
For Volunteer Drivers
Step 1: Sign Up
Register as a volunteer and tell us about your location, vehicle, availability, and how far you are willing to drive.
Step 2: Get Notified
When a transport is being organized along your route, you will receive a notification with details about the date, time, pickup and drop-off points, and the dog.
Step 3: Drive Your Leg
Pick up the dog (in their crate) at the designated meet point, drive your leg, and hand off to the next volunteer. It is that simple — and incredibly rewarding.
